Whitesnake: The Purple Tour – Hard Rock Live – Biloxi, MS 6/19/2015

Hard Rock Biloxi MSThe crowd at Hard Rock Live in Biloxi, MS came to rock and Whitesnake did not disappoint!  The pre-show music volume slowly cranked up to the driving sound of The Who’s “My Generation”.  The house lights dimmed adding fuel to the fire as the crowd quickly amped up their own volume.  As The Who faded and members of Whitesnake slid into position on stage,  the crowd was whipped into a total musical feeding frenzy.  The gnarly-o-phonic sound wave reverberated throughout the one hour-forty minute set.  Warning… when they kick off, you better be on the bus ’cause it ain’t stoppin’!
Hard Rock Biloxi MS - David CoverdaleDavid Coverdale owned the stage with the swagger and confidence of the true rock icon that he is.  He twirled and gestured the mic stand with the testoterone overdrive of a 16 year old… constantly taunting the crowd to ask for more, more more!  His supporting cast was spot-on vocally and musically.  The only short pauses in the show involved a dedication and a nod from Coverdale to fallen mates Jon Lord and Tommy Bolin.         Hard Rock Biloxi Ms - Joel HoekstraGuitarist Joel Hoekstra, formerly of Night Ranger, has stepped in to fill the void left by the exit of Doug Aldrich, and he has immediately made his mark with extreme showmanship and excellent playing.         Hard Rock Biloxi MS - Reb Beach Reb Beach holds down the six string slinging on the other side of the stage.  He is a bit more low key compared to Hoekstra, but is a machine going about his job at breakneck speed and is the glue that holds it all together. Keyboardist Michele Luppi and bassist/harmonica/vocalist Michael Devin were also outstanding with perfectly executed fills and a solid back-beat.  Tommy Aldridge is an absolute beast, continuously flogging the drums with reckless abandon as if they had just stolen his last five dollars.  About 3/4 of the way through his drum solo, Aldridge tossed his sticks into the crowd and continued with his hands, entertaining and performing better than most drummers can with sticks. David Coverdale had a solid night behind the mike, an extraordinary evening fronting the band and was nothing short of amazing on the screamers.   Hard Rock Biloxi MS - Whitesnake The tour,  is in support of their latest release “The Purple Album”, a tribute to David Coverdale’s years with Deep Purple on the albums Burn, Stormbringer and Come Taste The Band.  However, there is plenty of pure Whitesnake covering the majority of the set list. Hard Rock Biloxi MS - Whitesnake takes a well deserved bow to the crowdThe band’s encore  was “Still Of The Night” and DAMN… they rocked it hard!  Whitesnake: The Purple Tour is a must see if they come to rock your town!
